About
Welcome to the vibrant and bustling food scene of Butterworth, where we find a hidden gem known as Misai Mee Jawa. Tucked amidst the lively streets of Taman Dahlia, this humble hawker stall at 6794, Jalan Raja Uda has won the hearts of many, including earning a notable mention on the Michelin list. If you're looking for authentic local flavors, this is the place to be!
What sets Misai Mee Jawa apart is its delightful take on the traditional Mee Jawa. Originating from Java, this dish has been lovingly adapted to suit Malaysian palates. The star of the show is their signature Mee Jawa, served as a comforting bowl with a rich, sweet potato-based gravy that tantalizes the taste buds. This bowl of joy is topped with crunchy prawn crackers, adding a perfect texture that complements the dish.
Local patrons rave about the unique flavor profile of Misai Mee Jawa. One enthusiastic customer noted that the sweetness of the broth is balanced perfectly—neither too sweet nor too sour—making it a crowd-pleaser even for those who are not typical fans of Mee Jawa. Another delighted customer emphasized how the soup's consistency and the balance of saltiness and sweetness create an unforgettable experience.
Aside from the celebrated Mee Jawa, the stall also serves up Pasembur, which is different from the traditional Rojak encountered in the south of Malaysia. The addition of lime elevates the flavors and enhances all the fresh ingredients, especially the crispy prawn crackers, making it a refreshing option to accompany your meal.
While the environment may appear simple—with a bit of a dingy facade and basic seating—the culinary treasures found within are anything but! Don’t judge this book by its cover; step in, and you'll be greeted by fast and friendly service, even during peak hours. Remember to plan your parking in advance, as finding a spot can be challenging amid the bustling traffic.
In conclusion, Misai Mee Jawa is not just a food stop; it's a local legend that you won't want to miss. So if you're a fan of Malaysian cuisine or looking to explore new flavors, make sure to swing by for an unforgettable taste of authentic Mee Jawa. Savor every slurp and enjoy a heartwarming meal that harks back to tradition!
“ It’s famous and many locals eat here. Mee Jawa and Pasembur is the same just that Pasembur is without the mee. Not the pasembur (what we called Rojak in the south) I expect, lime adds a little sour taste for the Pasembur, heightens up the taste for all the ingredients especially the prawn crackers. Parking is easy to find. ”
“ Jawa mee at roadside hawker stall. It is average good with crunchy prawn carcker. ”
“ Mee Jawa is one of my favorite food Of course must try misai_mee_jawa, the selected Michelin Guide 2024 at Raja Uda, Butterworth! The gravy is very authentic! Simple ingredients yet packed with flavors, so satisfying! ”
“ I should pre warn you that this place looks a little dingy from outside. It's a simple style of hawker stall that's located beside a main road. However, we should never judge a book by its cover. It only looks dark from the outside. Once you enter, they have put some lighting to brighten it up. There are a couple of fans but very inadequate. Coupled with the zinc roofing, it can get pretty hot. This is classical local food in local simple setting where it can be a wee bit uncomfortable. But all is forgiven once you dig into their Jawa mee. Simply superb. The saltiness mixed with sweetness of the gravy in it's perfectly thick consistency when mixed with noodles results in the best Jawa mee you can get. Perfect score for me. PSA: turn in and find your parking the moment you reach Petronas petrol station otherwise you will overshoot the stall ”
“ Went to try this Mee Jawa because heard that it's good. Arrived about 530pm (they close at 6pm) and managed to get the Mee Jawa. Though I'm not a big fan of Mee Jawa, I have to say that, yes, it's really good. The sweetness is just nice. Not too sour. Appropriate portion. Stall at the roadside where you can easily find it. ”
“ Come her because Michelin, the jawa mee taste good and a bit different compared with other jawa mee. The chilli look red but not too spicy. Portion is okay with the price. Can have a try if you like jawa mee. Service was fast and friendly. It's a simple hawker stall beside a main road. Hard to find parking around this area. ”
“ Although Mee Jawa originates from Java, Malaysia has developed its own version—adapted to suit our local tastebuds. Even among Malaysians, you’ll find variations, especially between Malay and Chinese styles. Misai Mee Jawa is one such local legend which makes the Chinese version. It may just be a humble roadside stall under a shack, but it’s gained recognition far beyond the neighbourhood—earning a spot on the Michelin list. Their signature? A comforting soup version they’ve been serving for many decades, made with a sweet potato-based gravy that defines a good plate of Mee Jawa. Topped with crispy crackers for that extra crunch, it’s a bowl that hits all the right notes. Of course, we had to try both the original soup and dry versions—both equally satisfying in their own way. ”
